31105 passes Eastwood Level Crossing with 6E80 Blackburn to Healey Mills on 26th October 1987. Despite it by now having been reduced in status to a foot crossing, everyone still called it a "level crossing"!

31134 is seen just about to enter Horsfall Tunnel with the very regular 7E34 Ashton to Lindsay "Total" tanks. I photographed this train on countless occasions and for a long time it always had a brake van on the back - one of the few trains to do so at this period. 14/4/88.

31154 at Caldene, Mytholmroyd, with 7E34 11.00 Ashton to Lindsey. 7/2/89.

31185 and 31302 pass Hebden Bridge with 7E60 Preston Docks to Lindsey. 16/5/89.

31199 and 31188 are near the old coal drops at Sowerby Bridge with 7E60 Preston Docks to Lindsey on the 27th November 1987.

31223 passes Mytholmroyd with 6E02 10.28 Castleton to Healey Mills, on the 17th July 1989.

31225 heads east at Mytholmroyd, viewed from Scout End, with 7E34 11.00 Ashton to Lindsey. A Class 156, at that time the mainstay of passenger services in the Calder Valley, passes in the opposite direction, bound for Manchester.

31233 and 31304 pass Sowerby Bridge with 6M54 Leeds-Stanlow on the 4th March 1992.

31233 approaches Hallroyd Junction, Todmorden with 7E34 11.10 Ashton to Lindsay on the 1st March 1988. Note the brake van on the rear of the train. The spent track which can be seen in the sidings is from Summit Tunnel, following the disastrous fire there. Beyond the trees is where the Copy Pit bankers used to stable back in steam days, although that side of the triangle had by this time been lifted.

31446 and 31405 leave Hebden Bridge on the 15th April 1989 with the Border Fellsman railtour. The train was 1Z36 Swindon to Carlisle.

31447 passes Hebden Bridge with a "Z" working - the 6Z46 12.00 Weaste to Lindsey. 21/2/89.

31456 passes Mytholmroyd with a train of spent rail on the 1st February 1989.

31556 at Elland Tunnel (east) with 6E20 Arpley to Healey Mills on the 26th November 1991.

37049 "Imperial" was on this train every day at this point. It's the 6E02 Castleton to Healey Mils departmental train. It's seen here at Brighouse on 8th April 1992.

37104 passes a sunny Sowerby Bridge with a civil engineers working. 12/8/92.

37207 has just passed the site of the former Luddendenfoot station, at 08.40 on 28th October 1987. This was the outward run of the Speedlink coal to Preston Deepdale which originated at Healey Mills. It could only be photographed from this side at certain times of the year. This is another spot which is totally tree covered today.

37222 passes Hebden Bridge station with the 6E80 Preston to Healey Mills Speedlink coal train on the 7th March 1989. The 'box is still open, but the photographic spot has since disappeared in the undergrowth.

37235 heads downgrade near Luddendenfoot with 6E80 Preston Deepdale to Healey Mills, on 19th July 1989.

37251 at Hebden Bridge station with 6E41 Blackburn to Lackenby. 1/8/91.

37274 passes Mytholmroyd with 6E80 Preston to Healey Mills. 02/2/89.

37350/D6700 pauses at Hebden Bridge with the return leg of the "Power to the Tower" railtour, which as the title implies, had been to Blackpool. It ran on Spring Bank Holiday, 1st May 1989.

37377 passes Sowerby Bridge with 6E80 Preston to Healey Mills on 14th June 1988. The knoll from which this photo was taken was one of the spots used by Eric Treacy, when he was Vicar of Halifax. It's no longer available due to tree growth.

37505 and 37421 climb Elland Bank with 6M54 Leeds to Stanlow on the 2nd February 1993. As stated elsewhere, the cooling towers in the background have since been demolished.

37506"British Steel Skinningrove", allocated to Thornaby, passes through Sowerby Bridge station on the 4th March 1992 with 6E41 Blackburn to Lackenby. This train ran on and off for a number of years - usually 37-hauled, but Class 56s were quite common also. Note the Class 158 about to leave westbound for Manchester. The 158s had not been around for very long at this point.

37513 is seen at Mytholmroyd with 6E41 Blackburn to Lackenby on the 1st February 1989. This train ran for several years and was one of the few freight workings to traverse the Copy Pit route.

37680 descends Elland Bank with 6E39 Ellesmere Port to Saltend "vinegar" tanks on the 2nd February 1994. Again this train ran for several years in various forms, but has since ceased.

37706 climbs Elland Bank with the Leeds to Stanlow on the 9th March 1993.

37707 heads down Elland Bank with 6E31 Weaste to Port Clarence on the 2nd February 1993.

37711 on Elland Bank heading east with 7E34 Preston to Lindsey. 31/8/93.

37713 emerges from Elland Tunnel with 6E41 Blackburn to Lackenby. 22/1/92.

37713 passes Greetland Jcn with 6E41 Blackburn to Lackenby on the 6th March 1992.

37884 passes Caldene, Mytholmroyd with 7E34 Preston to Lindsay on the 1st August 1994. I suspect that this shot is still available, although anything other than a Shed would be a stroke of luck!

37891 crosses Gauxholme Viaduct with 6M19 Jarrow to Stanlow. 29/6/93. MM. More of Mick's photos can be seen in the linked gallery.

37899 was a very unusual visitor to the line, being a South Wales based loco at the time I took this shot. The train was usually hauled by a Class 56, but for a period these South Wales based locos seemed to be regular performers. The train is from Lynemouth to Ellesmere Port and carried coal for export to Ireland. 13/11/89.

45033 passes Dover Bridge Loop on the 14th October 1987 with 6E80 Preston Deepdale to Healey Mills "Speedlink" coal train. The loop was subsequently lifted after a 56-hauled MGR was derailed while being put in it. Some of the resultant spilt coal still lies on the railway embankment to this day!

45102 passes Mytholmroyd on the 17th November 1985 with the diverted 1M69 11.34 Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street. The location from which the photo is taken is no more. Mytholmroyd station was rebuilt here and tree growth means the view is no longer available.

45103 speeds through the lovely autumn colours at Eastwood on the 10th November 1985. It was at the head of the diverted 1M63 08.00 Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street "Trans-Pennine" service.

45128 passes the disused coal staithes at Sowerby Bridge on 27th November 1987. The train was the Speedlink coal from Preston to Healey Mills.

45143 races through Sowerby Bridge at the head of the diverted 1M66 09.51 York to Liverpool Lime Street. 24/11/85.

47005 passes Sowerby Bridge with 6E71 Bredbury to Cobra on the 14th June 1988. This photo also appears in the January 2007 edition of Rail Express Magazine.
