31263 is about to enter Horsfall Tunnel with 4M19 04.40 Heaton to Red Bank on the 2nd June 1988. This approach to the tunnel was getting a little treed-up at this time. I dread to think what it's like now.

31271 leaves Gledholt Tunnel with 4M06 10.35 Leeds to Red Bank Newspaper empties on 18th June 1988.

31275 emerges from Gledholt Tunnel into nice autumn colours, with 4M06 Leeds to Red Bank Sidings on 25th October 1987.

31304 heads up the slow line at Heaton Lodge prior to going up the Calder Valley with an unidentified parcels train. 17/7/86.

31317 ambles through Heaton Lodge Junction, Mirfield with a single parcels van bound for Huddersfield. 17/4/87.

31445 roars up through the Calder Valley at the head of the weekdays only "Red Bank" Newspaper train. This had run since steam days from Heaton CS to Red Bank Sidings, Manchester and ran until the late 80's when all newspaper traffic ceased on BR. In the diesel era, as in steam days, it could produce all types of motive power and it could occasionally have a 31 in charge at this particular period, although 45s and 47s were more common. 26/09/86.

31455 climbs Norman's Bank, Edale with newspaper empties to Red Bank, Manchester. 4th June 1988.

31465 and 31459 stand at Derby with a southbound parcels train on 14th September 1988. If anyone knows what the working was, I'd be pleased to hear.

31467 stands at the head of a newspaper train bound for Glasgow at Manchester Vic, on the 30th October 1987.

45012 roars through Brearley with 4M19 04.40 Heaton to Red Bank on the grey Saturday 3rd October 1987.

45069 is at the head of the fabled "Red Bank" newspaper empties at Eastwood, on Sunday, 10th November 1985. On Sundays it originated in Leeds and usually went via the Standedge route. It had been diverted due to engineering work on this occasion.

45128 is on the Red Bank at Smithy Bridge on 12th December 1986. MM.

45145 passes Heaton Lodge Junction on the 19th September 1986 with a short parcels train. I think the working was from Huddersfield to Leeds, but I stand to be corrected.

47418 stands at Leeds with a short parcels train on 17th January 1991.

47433 stands at York with a parcels train to Penzance. 19/1/89.

47447 arrives at York with a mail train from the south on the 24th July 1986.

47453 is about to enter Horsfall Tunnel with the Red Bank vans on the 4th March 1988. My then place of work is just visible to the right of the photo.

47474 "Sir Rowland Hill" passes Willington on the 9th May 1995 with a Crewe to Derby Etches Park Mail ECS.

47474 passes Buxworth with a newspaper ECS to Red Bank on the 5th January 1985. Taken on 400ASA film unfortunately, hence the graininess.

47482 at Huddersfield with 1E01 17.53 Workington to Huddersfield mail. 14/5/88. This wasn't the last working of this train, but it was destined not to last for too much longer.

47489 "Crewe Diesel Depot" at Bolton with 1V05 18.31 to Cardiff Central. 24/8/93.

47489 is at Huddersfield with the final 1E24 Shrewsbury to York Mail, on the 14th May 1988. This was a very sad night, as the Shrewsbury to York (and vice-versa) mail trains had been a feature of life at Huddersfield for many years.

47489 leaves Manchester Piccadilly with the afternoon Bristol vans. 5/7/90.

47490 roars through Hasland with 1V64 Newcastle to Plymouth on the 14th August 1992.

47491 is seen near Gateforth with a Low Fell to Kings Cross mail. 9th June 1993.

47547 is on 4M19 04.40 Heaton Carriage Sidings to Red Bank, Manchester on 7/6/88, as the train passes over Horsfall Viaduct.

47582 "County of Norfolk" stands in Wellington Street Parcels depot, Leeds on the 1st August 1988. The site of Leeds Wellington has now been incorporated into the rebuilt Leeds City station and no longer are sights such as this to be seen.
